"You're 100% my type on paper!"
Have you ever noticed any similarities between your last date and a job interview? Both experiences share the same pre-show nerves, picking out the perfect outfit, showing yourself in the best light, and the hope that it’s going to go well!
With it being the month of love and a busy time for job applications, we wanted to give you some tips that might just land you that next job (and a second date!).
Get yourself out there!
Just like finding a date, your dream job is probably not going to simply materialise. A little bit of effort needs to be put in (whilst maintaining a positive attitude!) when it comes to searching for your perfect role. It might be a good idea to start networking, connecting with people on LinkedIn, or speaking to experienced recruiters to see what’s out there!
Do a little digging
We all know you’ve done a search for your match on Google, Instagram, etc. before meeting them (don’t deny it!). Similarly, it’s always a good idea to research a company before an interview. Find out what the companies all about, talk to employees, read articles, check out their social media pages - just so you’re all up to date with all the latest news. This would also help you figure out whether the company is somewhere you’d like to work!
First impressions matter
Everyone hopes to make a good first impression whilst job hunting and dating. It’s always a good idea to show up on time, dress respectably, and behave appropriately! It's also wise to figure out what the dress code is before the interview - are we talking blazers and shirts, or t-shirts and trainers?
Share similarities
Be authentic! Look for a company that shares your values and allows you to be yourself. After all, this is a big commitment so you don’t want to settle for something that doesn’t quite click! Trust your instincts – if a job looks great on paper but feels off, it may not be right for you.
Trust the process
Being patient is key when job hunting as well as dating. Sometimes the perfect opportunity will come when you least expect it. You may face rejection on a few occasions, but it’s important to learn from every encounter and never give up! We know it can get tedious, but rest assured if you ever need any support – The Candidate will be able to help.
