The Prolific North Tech and eCommerce Top 75 List - Chat with David Prior

In preparation we caught up with David Prior, Editor for Prolific North, who chats about the report and it's increasing importance and popularity when it comes to business in the North.

Hi David, thanks for talking to us. The popularity of the Prolific North Tech and eCommerce list grown has exponentially in the last 3 years and has become a useful reference point. Can you tell us where the idea of running these lists came from?

Since Prolific North launched back in 2013 we've tried to benchmark the sector in the North, most notably with our respected series of Top 50 rankings - best digital agencies, PR agencies etc. Those lists are some of the most popular content we do so with the tech and ecommerce sector growing at such a rapid rate in the region, we felt a Top 75 ranking would be a great way to bring it all together, track its development and the progress of individual companies, and champion the great work going on in the Northern tech sector.

What is the purpose of the lists?

Well they're intended first and foremost as interesting, inspirational and informative content for our readers. To me one of the best things about the list is that while some entrants are household names, others are not at all - and yet they're turning over hundreds of millions and are perhaps only a few miles from where you live or work. This ranking in particular can definitely be eye-opening in that respect.  

We are very excited about the event, can you tell us a bit about the night? 

The ranking provides a great reason to get brands, agencies and other organisations together for some old-fashioned face-to-face talking! Aside from that, yummy food and a great venue at Colony Jactin House in Manchester, we have a fabulous main speaker on the night: Steve Oliver, who co-founded Music Magpie and took it all the way from his garage to the stock market. A truly inspirational tale which he'll be telling us about on the night. We'll have a couple of other contributors too, to be revealed!

As always there are great speakers at the event this year. How do you keep attracting these top digital professionals and what is their feedback?

We're lucky in the North in that there's a large and widening pool of success stories, inspirational case studies and engaging speakers to choose from. We're always careful about who we invite to an event, and we're confident that the Top 75 event on November 18th will live up to our usual standards.

You can get a sneak preview of the ranking by coming to the event itself on Thursday November 18th. We'll be publishing the Top 75 in full on our website the next day.
