Last month saw The Candidate close the doors to its Quay Street abode for the last time and move to their Piccadilly Gardens facing penthouse. 19b Quay Street had been their home since The Candidate was first launched in 2012 by Managing Partners, Brian Matthews and Colin Telford, but as the company has expanded so does the need for space and comfort for The Candidate family, their candidates and clients.

Colin Telford - Managing Partner ‘The decision to move was not one we made easily, we loved the Quay Street office and the community that we had built our business in. We watched as Manchester recovered spectacularly from a recession, feeling a part of the growth and regeneration. However in order to achieve the ambitious growth plans for the agency we made the decision to move to larger offices.’
They have now taken up residence in the bright airy penthouse of the Clayton House building. You will locate the entrance of the building opposite the Lever Street junction. This Grade II listed building of Jacobean Baroque construction welcomes you with a single modern glass entrance door. When you step inside you immediately get a feel for an older, romantic Manchester. With re-exposed Green British Racing Tiles, echoing corridors and spiralling staircases, you can hear whispers of the turn of the 20th Century in Manchester, when cotton was its bread and butter. Now Manchester is a hub of marketing, digital and eCommerce and The Candidate sits at the entrance of the Northern Quarter, where many of the most successful businesses reside.
Clayton House Northern Quarter,Brian Matthews - Managing Partner - ‘The location seemed like a natural choice as we can call many of our clients 'neighbours'. It's exciting for us as it feels like we are in an exciting era in Manchester’s history with its thriving marketing community; it's also a new era for The Candidate as we grow so rapidly and continue to branch into other markets such as offline marketing, brand and creative. We feel like this location will help us keep our finger on the pulse of what's going on in Manchester and the North West.’
Up to the 5th Floor, The Candidate's new home, bustling Manchester can be heard whistling in the distance. The building has a 180 degree view of Portland Street, Piccadilly Gardens and down to Piccadilly Station. The light and airy offices, boast exposed, original, red brick walls, light beech, wooden floors and white wood, non-offensively compliments the room making it feel authentic, yet modern. For downtime, there is a pool table and fully stocked beer fridge! There is also grand Chesterfield suites beside the fire that allows a quick chat or coffee away from the desk. There is apt private space for meetings, thinking space and for time away from the energetic ‘shop floor’. In the office, you can hear playlists of disco, house and indie sing, punctuated with laughter and camaraderie for a business that is loved as much by each member as the next. In all The Candidate’s vision for its new M1 era is definitely a challenging one but they are now positively equipped with the backdrop to achieve it.
