A massive part of the culture at The Candidate is being a part of a team. So with self isolation we have been looking for new ways to keep connected. In this blog Sophie Parkin our Senior Marketing Recruitment Consultant talks us through how we have been keeping motivated through Yoga and the benefits it has on health and wellbeing.
Sophie Parkin our Senior Marketing Recruitment ConsultantIn another week of isolation, whilst the UK remains on lockdown, what are you doing as a company to help the wellbeing of your staff?
If like us at The Candidate, you have been working from home for a couple of weeks now. This can be a challenging time feeling restricted and trapped in your home, which can also be detrimental to your mental health. However, we must carry on and do our bit to help get rid of this nasty virus.
So, in these unprecedented times, I think it’s important to focus on improving ourselves and our mental wellbeing.
Props to, @Madeleine Penfold and @Zoom meetings.
@Madeleine PenfoldToday, The Candidate took part in a Zoom Yoga session. Madeleine was our Yoga instructor today, she did an amazing job of being able to help and guide us all, even through a webcam.
(Plus, she’s a great photographer if you want to check her work out - www.madeleinepenfold.com/)
www.madeleinepenfold.com/Taking one hour out of our day, we spent our lunchtime (attempting) to get our Zen on. Madeleine was amazing and guided us through a relaxing session, focussing on wellbeing and mindfulness.
*Disclaimer* Our team did not look like the image to this article.
Starting off with some breathing techniques, Mads got us into the right head space to get started. This was followed by yoga positions and stretches to a playlist Madeleine had picked out. (A couple of giggles were had at points I’m sure as I know our team aren’t always the most sensible.)
To finish we ended with a “Savasana” – the nice little breathing bit at the end. Meditation is a great way to relieve stress and remind you to breathe, Madeleine implemented this in a way everyone felt comfortable and calm.
We’re definitely not the most flexible bunch and we won’t be calling ourselves ‘Yogi Bears’ just yet, but it was great to do the Yoga session together as a team, rather than playing a standard Youtube video on our own; the session felt more interactive.
If there’s one thing I would definitely recommend to companies who want to support their staff, I would say try and do these activities together. A catch up with the team doesn’t always have to be about business.
Benefits of Yoga:
I definitely think during times like these, if you feel like you have a lack of control, it’s great to just breathe.
If like me, you feel guilty for seeing a difference in your work ethic, take a step back. Do some Yoga, or just focus on yourself.
Self-Isolation tips:
A lot of businesses are feeling the difficulty of the virus at the minute, but I think it’s really important to focus on your employee’s wellbeing and your own.
What have you been doing to give yourself some positivity?
