Sophie Parkin, our Senior Marketing Recruitment Consultant has been reflecting on the last year in recruitment at The Candidate and what 2020 has to offer.
Sophie ParkinWhat can your department offer?
We offer a wide range of services helping our clients with their in-house positions. As the biggest team in the company, we’ve seen huge growth and responsibility to get The Candidate to where it is today. It genuinely feels like each time we grow within our department an element of something new and exciting comes to the team as we’re all from diverse backgrounds. Our team really cares about their candidates and clients’ needs and you really do see them put our candidates at the heart of everything we do.
in-house positionsTell us more about the Marketing Operations Team and the types of roles that you have been working on.
The team is constantly growing and we’re always looking for new recruits, so it’s a really exciting time to be in the business.
The roles we work on are really diverse. We help our clients find candidates from a range of channels including, Paid Media, SEO, CRM, Affiliates, Social, Email, and Content. We also work on heavily focussed eCommerce roles such as Merchandisers, Trading, and Buyers. In the past couple of weeks, roles have been heavily swayed towards Paid Social, which we find happens quite often; a certain channel is demanded dependant on the time of year.
We work quite differently here than what I’ve heard from other recruitment companies. We work as a team, so roles and candidates are constantly shared which we find helps with a quicker turnover rate and so much more efficient and enjoyable!
What sort of businesses are you currently working with?
Genuinely such a mixed bag! It’s nice within our team as we all have a range of different clients so day-to-day management always feels varied.
At the minute we’re working with the biggest range I’ve seen in the 2 and a half years I’ve been with the company, from Healthcare, Education, Fashion, Travel, Sport and more!
What challenges have you seen within the industry this past year?
I would definitely say Brexit has been problematic, which we anticipated. There’s been so much uncertainty for companies we work with, which must be really hard to make key decisions such as big hires.
I would also say being the biggest team in the company has its pressures. But as previously mentioned, we all collate together and crack on!
Top 5 Tips for someone to have a successful Marketing career?
- Research! Always stay on top of new trends. We see the marketing industry constantly evolving and changing, at such a quick pace.
- Tangibles – This is mainly a point for candidates’ CV’s. We see so many wishy-washy comments with no actual tangibles of when they have done something great in their career and the outcome of it. Clients LOVE to see numbers and percentages for growth so this should always be a focus.
- Passion – It’s so nice to see candidates who love what they do and it can be quite apparent when they’re not actually that passionate about their career. Work is where you spend pretty much all of your time, and you should love what you do!
- Industry – Get yourself out there. People who get themselves to industry events and mix well really do go a long way. You never know when you might come across a connection who may be able to help you in the future.
- Always be open to something new that you haven’t done previously. New opportunities and routes will always come your way and we find people love positions they never thought they would be in.
