OK, so we’re a recruitment agency specialising in Marketing that knows little or nothing about reviewing restaurants, but having moved right by the Northern Quarter we were keen to get out there and try the local pubs and restaurants and let you know what we thought! Our Managing Partner, Colin Telford, and Marketing Recruitment Director, Laura Walters visited Evelyn's Cafe, read all about their experience here!
Northern QuarterEvelyn's Cafe5 things we loved about Evelyn’s Café.
Evelyn’s Café.Address: G18, Tib Street, Manchester, M4 1NB
Time Visited: Lunchtime, Thursday afternoon.
1. THE FOOD
The food at Evelyn’s is absolutely fantastic and a great use of healthy ingredients and downright tasty treats. I ignored the avocado, the green beans and the salad and went for a Korean Roll filled with delicious KFC style chicken and masala chips. A truly amazing experience. This was washed down with a nice glass of sauvignon and complimentary watermelon water. There was a large selection of tasty healthy and non-healthy foods to choose from, some very bespoke cocktails to complement the menu and a wide range of soft drinks and alcoholic drinks
2. THE ARRIVAL
Already feeling welcomed by the Northern Quarter attitude and spring temperatures in the Manchester air, we walked into the restaurant to some funky ambient beats, playing blissfully in the background of a half full lunchtime crowd. A wide-open space, roomy tables and an open kitchen, we were immediately welcomed by our host with a huge smile who seemingly had all the time in the world for us. Taken to our table, I was sat with my back to the action but the mirrors on the walls allowed me to appreciate the activities throughout the café, be it new mothers catching up on the latest pram technology or a hipster with a shave long overdue talking through a presentation on his well-used Apple Mac.
3. THE TIMINGS
Not long after being seated we were presented with our deeply refreshing watermelon water bottle allowing us time to moisten the pallet and decide on our food and drink to come. Suitably relaxed and getting carried away with the morning’s recruitment activity, we hadn’t chosen even after the ample time given and asked for an additional 2 minutes. At around that time the order was taken and after ordering food, the wine list was delivered. The food was piping hot and with us within 10 minutes. Plenty of time was given after this to offer us the dessert menu but we were already stuffed and late for the afternoon rush back at the office!
4. THE INTERIOR DESIGN
Whilst catching up about all things marketing recruitment in the world, Colin and I relaxed amongst the surroundings of green interior plants that were dotted throughout the bright and airy room. Without overkill, reminders of South East Asia were in the air as were the spices from the freshly cooked meals in the kitchen which themselves nodded towards African cultures. A definite Botanical feel to the restaurant without the bugs to match.
5. THE SPACE
The co-working space lounge beneath offers small businesses and individuals in the creative industry an area to blossom (it’s called Daisy). This hub of talent and creativity adds to the appeal of the restaurant, were many from the area would meet suppliers and clients over coffee or something to eat. Apparently the co working space hours finish just in time for the evening to kick off and we’ll all be sure to head down there after work some day for a few drinks and strictly non work chat! Recruitment can be so dull sometimes.
Be sure to get yourself down to Evelyn’s and experience what we’ve had over a fantastic lunch, suitable for friends, meeting colleagues and definitely taking clients.
