My name is Kathryn Whitelaw. I'm a second year student studying Advertising & Brand Management at Manchester Metropolitan University's brand new £75 million development, MMU Business School (known to Foursquare users as "The Death Star"!). For the next few months, myself and four of my fellow students have been given the amazing opportunity to work, for one day per week, at The Candidate.
Manchester Metropolitan UniversityThe CandidateI am thrilled to have been given this opportunity at The Candidate as it will be interesting to see the development of this exciting and innovative agency within the next few months and also to be given the chance to be involved with the day-to-day workings of a marketing recruitment agency in the hustle and bustle of Manchester City centre.
From our first meeting with the whole team it was clear that they all have their hearts set on making the company a huge success - their aim is to grow The Candidate to be the biggest digital recruitment agency in the whole of the UK and I think they'll do it! Their great aspirations are evident with their new business venture already being shortlisted to the finals for the 2012 MARA Awardsas "Best Newcomer". They gave us an insight into their aims and the services that The Candidate has to offer recruits - from helping job seekers with CV development and improving interview techniques, right through to organising interviews with potential employers. They seek out job vacancies for a variety of skillsets, from graduates seeking media jobs in Manchester to senior executive roles for candidates looking to reach the next step in their marketing career.
2012 MARA AwardsThe Candidate utilise social media to seek out candidates searching for their dream jobs, updating their Twitter feed with new jobs posted on a daily basis, making it easy for followers to spot job roles that may be suited to their field of expertise. I was also surprised to find that such a new company had already built up a substantial network of clients in Manchester, across the North West and Yorkshire. The team have helped candidates land jobs with the top agencies and clients in the region. It was great to hear stories of candidates who have been successfully placed in new roles with companies in Manchester, and how The Candidate helped them in landing their jobs.
Twitter feedMyself, and the rest of the team from MMU Business school are extremely grateful to The Candidate for giving us the chance to work with them over the coming months. We expect to gain some valuable experience whilst we're here and also have some input into upcoming projects, using skills from our university modules. We hope that one day in the near future, when we have completed our degrees and are thrown into the world of work and paying taxes, we too can use The Candidate's services to help us find our perfect jobs!
Welcome to the team! Great blog Kathryn!
