If you’re looking to enhance your career in analytics, it can help to immerse yourself in the community of fellow data-driven individuals in your field. Whether you’re engaging with resources online, or planning to attend events in the future, by networking and absorbing all things analytics, you can improve your skills as well as developing a deeper understanding of the industry. Here are the top UK based analytics events and resources (with remote options too!) for you to get involved with:

MANCHESTER MEASURECAMP

Promoting themselves as an ‘Unconference’, MeaureCamp Manchester is an event for analytics enthusiasts to discuss data, insight and more. The Candidate was the official recruitment sponsor of Manchester MeasureCamp in 2019 – so you know we’re big fans! With schedules created on the day and discussions driven and voiced by attendees, it fosters growth of not only the local analytics hub, but also encourages wider exploration of national and even global data communities. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are key here - you can choose to focus on topics you are passionate about, or even discover new ideas you are yet to encounter. Unsurprisingly, the Covid 19 pandemic has shifted this event online, and 2021’s Virtual MeasureCamp saw a combined effort from all four UK divisions to host an engaging online experience. DATA SCIENCE FESTIVAL – MANCHESTER

The Manchester branch of a global data and analytics community, Data Science Festival focusses on making data education available to all with free technical events. Their speakers focus on real-world challenges and pinpoint relevant topics that matter most in the industry today. With online events and workshops to tide us over until the meet ups start again, and a top quality blog called the Datamine, you can always find something to learn and get involved with.

CRAP TALKS

Standing for conversion rate, analytics and product (phew), CRAP Talks is a London based conference which prides itself on the quality and variation of its discussion panels. Not only is analytics a key focus at the event, but you can also learn about everything from data science to user experience! The speakers are chosen for their experience and acumen, rather than popularity, so you know you’re in for real-world, practical insights from working professionals that will feel actionable and relevant to you. They also have a really interesting and entertaining blog on their website (ever wondered what would happen if Elon Musk did CRO?), and even an archive of presentations on their YouTube channel ('day in the life of a Twitter analyst’ anyone?), so whilst the events might not be taking place in person right now, you can still get your CR.A.P fix… trust us, it’s they’re definitely a lot better than their name first suggests!

MEETUP

A fantastic resource to find local events near you - Meetup is a platform that allows you to search for events focussing on anything that piques your interest, including analytics and data! A great local group on Meetup is ‘Manchester Numberwang! A Data Lover’s Meetup’, where data deep-divers and enthusiasts discuss how data can be used to challenge and excite people – sharing real-world stories and even running guided workshops. However, the move to digital events means its now possible to attend meetups from anywhere in the country, exposing you to an even wider array of ideas, opinions, and information. Meetup also enables you to immerse yourself in a professional community, for example ‘Women in Programming’, which is so important when a lot of us are feeling increasingly isolated. You can even host your own meetup if you feel so inclined – just make sure to invite us okay?!
