The event:

The great role models in technology today are amazing people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, so it is easy for us to perceive Technology as male dominated industry, since we lack the female role models girls sometimes need.

As someone who dreamed to be a writer/journalist her whole life, and switched to Business and Management last minute, then to Business Information Technology in her second year of university, I know how unlikely it is for a technology career to become an option for women. Even when the thought comes to our mind, many people tend to believe it might be too late for them to start learning, but this can't be further away from the truth. For me, learning the basics of coding was not only surprisingly enjoyable, but also very rewarding, and had a positive impact on my soft skills as well.

But don't listen to me, listen to these great women around Manchester who are successful in technology related industries and enjoy every second of it:

Imogen Goughis still a student at MMU, looking forward to graduate with a degree in Computer Science. She already had the opportunity to write software for big companies such as IBM and Quartet Financial Solutions.

Rosie Campbellis currently working for BBC as a Research Technologist in the UX sector and has an academic background in both Psychics and Computer Science. Since graduation, she worked on a variety of great tech project which aim to revolutionise broadcasting.

Lola Oyelayo  has more than 10 years of experience in design and user experience and she is very passionate about technology. She also has a broad digital portfolio and is constantly coming up with new ideas about how to improve user experience and design.

Elizabeth Chestersis a current consultant at ThoughtWorks and a Computer Science Graduate. Her focus is also on user experience, together with accessibility and front-end development. But that's not all, Elizabeth is passionate about promoting technology careers and encourages others to learn more about the industry by volunteering for CodeFirst:Girls, STEMNets and Code Club.

They're all attending 'Stop Talking Start Doing: Technical Women in Manchester' next Thursday at MMU, so why not take this opportunity to hear more about the rewarding world of technology? You can be a student or a professional, as long as you're interested in the matter; you're more than welcome to join.

Although the guests are all women and all attention might be on them, don't feel this invitation is only open to females, anyone is welcome to attend and share their knowledge and opinions on the future of technology.

If you are also one of the people who also want to start doing, or simply wish to broaden your horizons and find out if a career in technology can be an option for you, come along, we promise you'll enjoy your time.
