Celebrating Success – The Candidate Goes to London!

5 Mins

It’s been an exciting year at the Candidate. The team has grown, records have been broken, and milestones have been hit - so to celebrate, we headed down to the capital for a few days of fun!

Here’s what we got up to on our London adventure…

Thursday

The train journey down south flew by, helped by our well-stocked supply of drinks and snacks (fruit for Meg, G&T’s for Vic). Once we arrived at our base for the trip – a stunning townhouse Leif found on air bnb – we got ready for our first activity: Bunga Bunga!

A combination of bingo and karaoke, Bunga Bunga proved a massive hit. After getting far too competitive over bingo (Chris did win a free cocktail though) and eating plenty of pizza, it was time for Karaoke. Highlights included Chris’s rendition of Hey Ya, Katy serenading us with Careless Whisper, and the stars of the night – the Tech Team, proving that you can take us out of Manchester but you can’t take Oasis out of our hearts, with an amazing cover of Don’t Look Back in Anger (and yes, we have video evidence of Jack and Phil’s stellar performance).

Back to the flat we went for an early night (ha) to get ready for tomorrow.

Friday

Friday was the big day – Ascot Races! Delayed taxi’s and missed trains didn’t stop us from arriving as Ascot bright and early for some pre-racing mimosas! Everyone was suited and booted, Katy looked stunning in a chic black dress, Meg wowed in red, Vic wore a gorgeous polka dot number, whilst Mel and Lau gave off Cheshire glam! The boys didn’t disappoint either, ET exuded supply teacher chic, Sam rocked the limo driver look, and Henry channelled ‘excel speadsheet’. Once at the racecourse, Henry got to work tapping into his contacts for betting tips, whilst Colin was trackside scouting out potential winners. Mel had an early win on Doctor Ken (yes she bet on half the horses running but it still counts), however the big victory of the day was Henry’s tip for Pink Legend – making Brian very happy indeed!

Countless drinks tokens and some very welcome food later, the races came to an end and we headed back into central London for dinner and dancing! The party continued late into the night – I’ll spare you the stories (I don’t want to relive the hang-xiety).

Saturday

Sore heads rallied after a well-choreographed breakfast from Leif, and after a thorough clean and tidy a few of the team headed into London for lunch at the markets, others met up with friends, and some of us hopped back on the train to Manchester. An amazing trip all round!
