It is clear that the brand marketing recruitment industry has been booming! We sat down with our Senior Brand Recruitment Consultant, Christian Bloor, to discuss the brand marketing recruitment department and gain advice on how to secure a top job within the sector.

What can your department offer?
As a recruitment agency, The Candidate offers a full service across Marketing which includes brand, digital, agency and analytics. We are focussed on the North West and so we have a great understanding of the market on a regional level. Our main focus within the brand department is on Offline Marketing/Communication and Events roles. The collaborative nature of the business internally ensures we work together to ensure we work with the best talent for our client’s requirements.

Tell us more about the Brand Recruitment Team and the types of roles that you have been working on.
The Brand team is made up of over 12 years combined experience. We have been successfully recruiting for a variety of industries ranging from Legal to Retail. The core roles we look at our Brand/Offline positions at a more senior level, so Marketing/Brand Manager roles are at the core of what we do. We have also been successfully recruiting PR/Communications/Events roles from Executive to Senior level.

What sort of business’ are you currently working with?
We are recruiting for a wide variety of businesses; healthcare, law, retail, finance. We are passionate about brand marketing and how this can impact a business and raise their profile, so we are certainly open to every sector. It is more of a case of finding the right culture and experience for each specific business.

What challenges have you seen within the industry this past year?
The uncertainty around Brexit is always going to impact a business’ decision to hire. However, the marketing industry has been buoyant and most businesses value the impact of marketing and how this can directly impact sales measurably. So, in truth, it has been a positive year for the industry and I am confident this will continue.

Top 4 Tips for someone to have a successful Brand career?

  1. Be creative, marketing is very visual, especially in brand, so creativity is crucial.
  2. Value your ability, unfortunately, I have spoken to many Marketeers who are not valued enough in their companies, relative to their peers.
  3. Try and keep an open mind to other areas of Marketing, it is great to be a Brand Marketing Specialist. However, if you can understand how the digital side works this will add a lot of value for future roles.
  4. A bias tip here but work closely with agencies, good communication is key – Recruiters are looking at the market every day so they are a great source of information to find out what is going on.
