A Marketing Internship at The Candidate

5 Mins

After completing a Psychology degree at the University of Birmingham, Lucy Gage decided that she wanted to begin a career in Marketing. To get her foot in the door she has been gaining experience here at The Candidate’s marketing department. She talks about her involvement at The Candidate and what she's learnt so far!

I came across The Candidate’s website whilst searching for a job after graduating. I was certain that I wanted to begin a career in marketing, but I knew that the search for a job would be a long and difficult process as I didn’t have a lot of relevant experience. Luckily, I had a read through the blog section on The Candidate’s website and found several blogs written by people who had been in a similar situation to me, but had gained amazing digital marketing experience with The Candidate. This was exactly what I needed, so I sent an email asking about the possibility of gaining some work experience, and luckily they got back to me!

Within a few days, I was invited to come into the office to have a relaxed and friendly chat about the types of tasks I would be doing, and to complete a simple writing task. I knew straight away that this would be a fun and exciting place to work, and I was so happy when I was offered some work experience.

Everyone at the office made me feel welcome straight away, and the marketing team were so helpful and made sure that I picked up the skills quickly. I’ve worked on several aspects of digital marketing, such as writing content for the website and social media, learning about SEO and how to use social media to promote jobs, and gained an understanding of CMS. Working at a recruitment agency has been extremely helpful as I have gained an insight into what employers in the digital marketing industry are looking for. This information, as well as the skills I have gained, will really benefit my future career. I have enjoyed every day working at The Candidate, everyone is fun, welcoming, and supportive, and my internship with them has improved my knowledge of digital marketing massively. I think its great that they offer such valuable work experience and support with finding a job, and I would recommend them to anyone!

I am now 3 months into my internship and have begun my search for a permanent job in the digital marketing industry, which has been made so much easier with the skills and contacts I have gained whilst working at The Candidate. Anyone looking for work experience in digital marketing should definitely look into getting an internship at The Candidate, you will struggle to find somewhere where you can gain excellent transferable skills and have so much fun at the same time! The Candidate is a great company and all of the recruiters are amazing at what they do. I feel confident about my future career knowing that I will be able to come to them for support when making my next career steps, and I am so thankful that I was offered an internship with them!
