Relocation package for work

Relocation packages are a pull for job seekers, our latest research has found, yet many employers don't offer them to potential candidates.

We surveyed over 1,000 jobseekers to discover the reasons for the digital skills shortage. Our research found that nearly all (92 per cent) of those surveyed would consider moving for a job if they were offered a relocation package.

However, employers don't tend to recognise the influence that relocation packages have on candidates. In fact, the majority (83 per cent) of jobseekers that took part in the research have never been offered a relocation package as part of a job offer.

The shortage of digital skills throughout the UK has been well documented. When recruiting for staff within any digital departments, it's not always a given that suitable candidates will be located within commutable distance.

The elements of a relocation package can differ from one employer to another. Occasionally packages are dependent on how significant the hire is, or if the employment location is more than 50 miles from the candidate's home.

Things that are often included are removal and travelling expenses, legal fees and paid leave whilst relocating. Employers also frequently consider paying hotel or temporary accommodation fees whilst new employees seek more permanent accommodation.

The survey demonstrates that it is becoming a necessity for employers to offer relocation packages in order to recruit the best candidates. Now more than ever, it is important for employers to consider different options to recruit talent into their business, and to help close the digital skills gap once and for all.
