2021 Tech & IT Market Predictions

5 Mins

2021 is here and if there was ever a year that hastened the development of software and external support systems it was last year. It paves the way for a hugely exciting year in tech, offering solutions for teams and individuals that not only serve a purpose but add to the culture and work ethic as well as creating, developing and defining brands for companies and workplaces. Engagement, customer journey, conversion rates and predictive learning all feature as part of our predictions for the year.

Our Senior Technology Recruiters Jack Such and Blake Thompson compiled the feedback from a selection of our candidates operating as a Senior Software Developer, Development Manager, Solutions Architect and a Lead .Net Developer. Enjoy!

Decline in Vanilla Languages

Perhaps the biggest change in the Technological environment is the reduction in commercial application of Vanilla languages. Taking a look back over the years, the typical Front-End Developer would be an expert on HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In 2021, the decline in Vanilla languages will discover much more niche development roles with Front End Developers being core experts in JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue and more. Equally, we are noticing more and more PHP Developers who purely are searching for framework-based development roles whether it is an eCommerce business who revolve around Magento, or whether an agency focused on Laravel.

In 2020, one of the most typical challenges our clients have faced is the recruitment of specialist tech talent to allow their infrastructure and systems to modernise. Reflecting in the reduction in vanilla languages, often business are transposing their systems to niche frameworks due to the additional benefits they provide whilst scaling the business to achieve growth.

Increased Usage of Advanced AI

The most certain prediction we can assume as we gaze into 2021 is the increased usage and continued advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Although numerous major industries such as Aviation have implemented advanced AI into their systems to improve the customer experience and system autonomy, we can safely conclude that 2021 will be the year of AI.

Due to the continual improvement in smart computer capabilities and human behaviour prediction, AI and robotic assistance is gradually becoming cheaper to implement within a commercial stance. Industries such as eCommerce and Hospitality are set to introduce AI into their operating systems to ensure their customers are recognised, offered customisable solutions and a personalised service.

Boom In Productivity & Monitoring SaaS Platforms

The ever growing need to support remote teams in 2020 will inevitably lead to an increased reliance upon cloud-based infrastructure. As businesses across the world have adjusted their typical operating procedures, Technology departments have become an all-time high reliant upon productivity and monitoring SaaS platforms. As COVID has shifted the technological revolution way beyond its years, remote working (or at a minimum part remote working) is now the norm. Due to this, and in correlation with the significant increased valuation of Zoom, we can certainly predict an expansion and boom in the B2B SaaS platforms market which will enable businesses to better adapt to their modern challenges.

Brandon Littler, Technical Architect @ New Signature UK predicts “The growing need to support remote teams will lead to a heavier reliance on cloud-based infrastructure and the development of more SaaS products aimed at monitoring and increasing productivity of that workforce.” His further thoughts for this year focussed on chatbots “The market for & tech behind chatbots will continue to improve as companies move towards self-service models and rely less on human customer service agents”

Transition Towards Self-Service Models

Similarly, to the expected growth in the SAAS market, we predict that businesses are likely to increase their focus on self-service models. Industries far and wide, ranging from automotive to dental, will require a shift to autonomous and digitalised processes to ensure their customers are still given the best service, and converted from prospect into customer, in the same manner. This requirement is likely to see the market and tech behind chatbots and self-service technology to continue to improve as businesses rely less on human interactions to deal with enquiries.

Focus on Events-Driven Architecture

Briefly described as ‘a software architecture paradigm promoting the production, detection, consumption of, and reaction to events, Events-Driven Architecture is likely to be one of the key industry phrases of 2021. As remote working and a digital customer base is becoming ever prominent, the reliance to ensure business structure, support and monitoring is a core driver behind the requirement to implement Events-Driven architecture. As businesses rely more on their systems to maintain their incoming revenue, the increased emphasis there is on the stage process within a system, ensuring that a business not only functions correctly but is also entirely protected

Thanks everyone for your predictions for Tech & IT this year. We wish you all the best and a prosperous 2021.
