Normally working in an agency environment, the account management job would entail working on one or more client accounts, being the person who takes the brief and communicates that internally. They may compile and interpret the results of their marketing activities and keep the client relationship with the agency going strong. Account management jobs also exist within client-side businesses, usually managing specific accounts which the business may own. They may look after specific elements of the marketing campaigns or work on the broader more general marketing activity.
